SilverSneakers is a fitness program for adults ages 65 years and older. It offers access to exercise facilities, specialized fitness classes, online resources with workout videos and tips, and thousands of participating gyms nationwide.

While Original Medicare (parts A and B) doesn’t cover SilverSneakers, some Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Medigap plans cover it. To participate, you can enroll at SilverSneakers.com.

Even if SilverSneakers membership is included in your plan, you may need to sign up to join. Start by visiting SilverSneakers.com to verify whether your plan offers this service in your area.

After confirming your eligibility, you can register directly on the site. Once you enroll, you’ll receive a membership card granting access to participating gyms and all SilverSneakers benefits.

Although SilverSneakers is designed for adults over age 65, there’s no official age requirement. Your eligibility only depends on whether your plan includes this service.

In addition to checking your eligibility on SilverSneakers.com or your plan’s website, you can also call 866-584-7389 or email the program at support@silversneakers.com.

If the program is included in your plan, you get its benefits at no cost.

That said, like other insurance plans, your Part C plan likely charges a monthly premium. The amount of this premium depends on your plan.

If you get SilverSneakers through a Medigap plan, your costs will depend on which of the available 10 plans you’re enrolled in.

In addition, gyms can offer benefits that aren’t included with SilverSneakers, and you’ll have to pay for those out of pocket if you wish to participate. Contact your gym of choice to learn about its amenities and classes and what’s included with SilverSneakers.

The most common reason you might be ineligible is that your healthcare plan doesn’t participate in SilverSneakers.

If you switched plans, your new one might not include SilverSneakers. Plus, benefits can change, so your current plan may have dropped this coverage.

In this case, to access the program, you must switch to a plan that offers it. You can do this during open enrollment.

That said, if you believe you qualify based on your current plan, check to ensure your enrollment data matches your insurance card. You can contact SilverSneakers customer service if you find any errors.
